Kyle Friesen is an experienced attorney representing clients in significant intellectual property matters with a focus on patent disputes before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and federal district courts in Texas and across the United States.

His broad technical expertise and tireless curiosity have helped Kyle successfully represent clients across a wide range of technologies, including semiconductors, medical devices, telecommunications, imaging, and electronics, among others.

In addition to his work in district and appellate courts, Kyle’s track record includes defending patent rights in inter partes review and other post-grant proceedings since the PTAB was established in 2012, as well as defending patents involved in related high- stakes infringement litigation.

Kyle also advises clients on intellectual property matters that impact business transactions, including potential infringement and invalidity issues, as well as commercial contracts and financing agreements. He understands that clients rely on their intellectual property to protect and generate value, and that litigation is often only one piece of a larger business strategy.

Professional groups focused on intellectual property protection frequently call on Kyle as both an author and speaker on practicing before the PTAB and various patent law issues.

In addition to his intellectual property practice, Kyle is devoted to ensuring access to justice through his pro bono legal work. In 2025, he was recognized for his work on behalf of an intellectually disabled Texas prisoner who had spent more than 20 years on death row. The ruling issued by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals spared the man’s life and became one of the rare instances where the state’s highest criminal court decided to amend a prior death sentence.
