Heim, Payne & Chorush LLP Featured in 2023 IAM Patent 1000

Heim, Payne & Chorush, LLP, and four of its partners are drawing high praise in the 2023 edition of the annual IAM Patent 1000 ranking of the top patent law firms in the U.S.

The highly regarded national guide is based on interviews with clients and leading practitioners from other law firms. Heim, Payne & Chorush claimed a national ranking for companies and individuals “seeking world-class legal patent expertise.”

The guide describes Heim, Payne & Chorush as “among the best in the country with respect to patent owner representation. Its talented IP lawyers have been at the cutting edge of litigation in the United States for the past 15 years and excel at high-level matters.”

In addition to the firm’s ranking, Heim, Payne & Chorush partners Michael Heim, Russell Chorush, Leslie Payne, and Eric Enger earned individual honors based on their years of work for clients in significant intellectual property litigation, including pharmaceutical antitrust litigation involving patents.

One client described Mr. Heim as having “tremendous experience litigating against all the major Big Tech firms. He is honest, timely and extremely good at his craft.” The annual guide’s editors called Mr. Chorush “a discerning choice for Hatch-Waxman litigation and is most at home when the stakes are high.”

A client of Mr. Payne’s called him “an incredible advocate who gets results. He is very aggressive and straight-forward in his approach; he identifies the issues that really matter and devises creative solutions to solve them. Leslie excels at all aspects of litigation but particularly shines on the technical side.”

Mr. Enger was singled out as a “great oral advocate, who is highly experienced at taking witnesses.”

Last month, Heim, Payne & Chorush won back-to-back rulings for Ireland’s Arigna Technology Limited before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in Washington, D.C. Mr. Heim led the firm team that defeated challenges to Arigna’s patents filed by the corporate-funded patent litigation group Unified Patents, LLC, and technology giant Apple Inc. A day later, a separate PTAB panel ruled in favor of Arigna following Apple’s request for an inter partes review of an Arigna patent that covers semiconductor technology.

In April, Heim, Payne & Chorush scored three consecutive victories for Texas-based Atlas Global Technologies Inc. in defense of inter partes review requests filed before the PTAB by a Taiwan-based technology company and a request for transfer requested by a separate technology company in Shenzhen, China.
